Some children want disco balls. Some want football. And then there are the ones who have read every magical story they can get their hands on, who make wands out of sticks in the garden, and who would quite like an owl to arrive with a letter one morning. This theme is for them.
Hi, I am Leigh, founder of Sweet Dreams Events and a primary school teacher of twelve years. Wizarding Academy is the newest theme in our collection and I have been quietly excited about it for months. Here is everything a parent needs to know.
What the theme actually looks like
Picture the room in warm lantern light rather than bright overhead bulbs. Each teepee carries a house scarf draped across the frame in deep jewel colours. A wand rests on every bed, waiting. Enchanted flags hang between the poles and there are plush companions tucked into the cushions for the younger ones.
The whole look leans into candlelight and old books rather than anything garish. Parents tend to be surprised by how genuinely beautiful it is. It photographs wonderfully, which matters more than it should but absolutely does matter when your child wants to show their friends.
Why this theme works so well
Two reasons, and the first surprises people. It works for boys and girls equally. Most of our themes lean one way or the other, and this one genuinely does not. It also has a built in activity. Magic invites play in a way that a colour scheme cannot. Children sort themselves into houses within about four minutes of walking in. They invent spells. They stage duels. You do not need to plan an entertainer, because the theme does that work for you.
The age range
Five to fourteen, though it stretches further at the top end than most of our themes. Younger children love the plush companions and the dressing up. Older ones, the eleven, twelve and thirteen year olds who are starting to feel that most party themes are a bit babyish, love that this one has real atmosphere. It feels grown up in a way a unicorn party does not.
Activities that work brilliantly
- A house sorting ceremony as guests arrive. Takes five minutes and sets the tone for the whole night.
- Potion making with fizzy drinks, sherbet and dry ice if you are feeling brave. Endlessly popular and genuinely funny.
- A spell class where each child invents their own incantation and performs it. Expect chaos and shrieking.
- A midnight feast, which suits this theme better than any other in the collection.
What is included
Every Wizarding Academy booking includes the styled teepee, a fresh airbed with laundered bedding, themed cushions, a house scarf, a wand, lantern lighting and a breakfast tray for the morning. Everything is delivered, set up and styled before your guests arrive, then collected the following day.
Teepees are £45 each with a minimum of two. If you would like to add on personalisation, our Sweet Dreams Personalised package is £20 per child and our Sweet Dreams VIP package is £30 per child, which brings named trays, named bottles and the extra touches that make each child feel the night was made for them. Our Ultimate package goes further still, finishing the night with a teepee cinema movie night on the big screen.
Booking
We cover Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and parts of Berkshire from our base in Reigate. A 25% deposit secures your date and the balance is due 14 days before. If your child is the one making wands out of garden sticks, this is their night. I would love to help you plan it.
